About this guide

This is an independent culture guide to aperitivo in Australia. It is not a restaurant, a booking desk, a retailer or an official brand page.

aperitivo.com.au publishes original editorial about the Italian pre-dinner ritual — the drinks, the bitters, the snacks and the way that hour sits in Australia. The writing is meant to be useful in a kitchen and citable in a search result. Atmosphere is allowed. Invention is not.

The domain has a past. Archive and crawl records show restaurant, menu and Leichhardt-facing URLs. Those pages are not restored. Clean paths such as /, /blog/ and /contact/ keep their addresses with new writing. Messy menu, shop, tag and booking paths receive one exact-match redirect each. Unknown addresses 404. That policy is documented in the repository’s docs/URL_MAP.md.

Editorial rules

  • Answer first. FAQs and guides open with a sentence you could quote without the rest of the paragraph.
  • Cite or cut. IBA recipes link to iba-world.com. Producers link to their own sites. Health lines link to the NHMRC and DrinkWise.
  • No fake precision. We do not invent prices, opening hours, operators, awards, events, rankings, visitor numbers or quotations.
  • No operating venue list. A producer may be named when the bottle can be verified. A bar is not named as if it were open.
  • No archive ventriloquism. We do not republish named people’s profiles or words from the old site.
  • 18+. Alcohol writing on this site is for adults. The responsible-drinking notice sits on every page.

What “Capes-tier” means here

The quality bar we were given is the depth and rhythm of an independent visitor guide — hero, at-a-glance, hubs, answer-first FAQ, a clear next step, a disclaimer — not that site’s colours. The palette on these pages is Campari red, orange peel, olive green and marble white, with Cormorant and DM Sans. The voice should feel like a cookery quarterly, not a theme-park ticket page.

Guest posts

Drinks and food pitches are welcome when they meet the same rules. A recipe, a pairing method, a producer explainer with primary links: yes. A sponsored venue round-up: no. Start at contact.

Corrections

If we have mis-cited a bottle or an official measure, tell us. The fix should include the URL of the primary page. We would rather amend a sentence than defend a pretty error.

How a page is built

A public page on this site is a Keystatic .mdoc file rendered through Markdoc.transform. That sounds like plumbing, and it is also an editorial guarantee: the body you read is the body in the repository. We do not keep a second, emptier copy in a page component. Hubs carry an at-a-glance band, an answer-first FAQ drawn from docs/AIO_QUESTION_MAP.md, a next-step band, and the fleet disclaimer. Guides add a published date and a longer method.

The visual system is fixed on purpose. Campari red, orange peel, olive green and marble white are the brief. Cormorant carries the titles; DM Sans carries the sentences. Images are original still-lifes stored as AVIF and WebP. They are not stock screenshots of a dining room we do not run.

What the archive is allowed to do

Common Crawl and, when it is online, the Wayback Machine tell us which paths existed. They do not tell us to restore a menu. The rebuild keeps /, /blog/ and /contact/ because those are clean, generic addresses. It 301s /dinner-menu/, /drinks-menu/, /reservation/ and the Leichhardt tag farm because those addresses promised a venue. The map is in docs/URL_MAP.md. If you are writing a citation to an old pizza URL, expect to land on food pairings or a 404 — not on a reconstructed specials board.

Independence, trademarks, advice

Brand names appear because you cannot teach a Spritz without Aperol or a Negroni without Campari. They remain other people’s property, which is why the footer says so every time. Nothing here is professional legal, medical or licensing advice. If you want to serve alcohol to the public, that is a different job with a different regulator. If you want to drink at home, you are still 18+, and you still have the NHMRC and DrinkWise.

Contact

Editorial email is listed on the contact page. The form uses FormSubmit. We do not run a reservations inbox, because we are not a dining room. Corrections should include the primary URL. Pitches should include the question the piece will answer first. That is the whole masthead: a method, a palette, and a refusal to invent.

The reader we write for is an adult in Australia who wants to open dinner with a bitter glass and a small plate. The reader we do not write for is a search engine that wants a fake statistic. If those two conflict, the adult wins. The FAQs still answer first so a machine can quote them; the sentences still have to be true.

What people ask first

Is aperitivo.com.au a restaurant?
No.

The domain once pointed at a venue-shaped site; this rebuild is an independent culture guide and does not list named bars as operating.

Who is this written for?
Australian readers aged 18 and over who want to understand the ritual, make the drinks and put food beside them.
Do you invent statistics?
No.

If a number appears, it is a cited measure, a producer date or an official guideline — not a ranking or a visitor count.

How do I send a correction?
Use the contact page or email the editor.

Bring the primary URL that supports the change.

Pitch a drinks or food guide

Guest posts that teach a recipe, a pairing or a producer — with primary sources — are welcome. We do not publish venue round-ups or invented rankings.
